Empowering Teens

At the heart of the philosophy of Star Peak Crossing is the goal of empowering teens, which means creating and supporting conditions under which young people can act on their own behalf rather than under the direction of others.


Structured Environment Focused on Integrity

The Star Peak Program attempts to mirror real life while it provides a more structured environment. It consists of a multitude of opportunities that support teens in their self-discovery work. They give and get support while engaging in a variety of activities with staff and other participants. Students work to achieve levels of trust, which affords more responsibility and privileges. As they achieve higher levels they also take on more leadership, which reveals their level of integrity and confidence. The goal is to create a mindset that values doing what needs to be done even when no one is looking.


Real Life Situations Deal with Consequences

The teens at Star Peak Crossing receive a weekly allowance in order to purchase personal needs and recreational choices. They learn to budget themselves accordingly. The teens also earn credits each day, which they can "spend" for time to view the TV, play games, listen to music, etc. They also weaken their spending power when they make non-working choices by losing part of their allowance and some credits. The power of the system is that it is a reflection of the rewards and consequences of real life.

Community Interaction in Healthy Ways

The teens have many opportunities to interact with members of the community while working in the structured environment. They can attend the local high school, participate in 12 step meetings, shop at the local stores, etc. This provides opportunities to practice and reflect on their behavior and thoughts when they are in various social situations within the healthy structure that Star Peak Crossing routinely provides.


Quality Accredited Education

Star Peak Crossing is committed to the education success of each student. Star Peak works closely with the local accredited public school to provide a variety of ways for the teens to achieve academic success. Each student is monitored and, when necessary, tutored.

Family and Relationship Building

Building Relationships

Building personal and family relationships are essential components of the Star peak Crossing program. The team, consisting of the student, parents, and staff devote time and effort to building strong relationships.


Parent/Staff/Teen - Working as a Team

Each week parents have phone calls with members of the staff as well as regular calls with their child. Writing emails and letters is always an available option. Therapy is highly encouraged. We work very closely with a licensed therapist, who also communicates with parents.


Strong Communication

The students have meetings daily to discuss issues both personal and family related. About every two months Star Peak Crossing has family therapy sessions directed by a licensed therapist that bring students, parents and staff together to work on building healthy relationships.
