Family Purpose

To love what we do and share what we love, as we help others enjoy life and create worthwhile relationships...in this we make a difference!

At the heart of Star Peak Crossing sits the Chism family. We have been married for almost 13 years, have 3 wonderful children, Skyler, Bailey, Parker, 2 rambunctious dogs and 14 years of experience working with teens and their families.

Working with youth is a passion we both share. As parents ourselves, we believe in Family Unity, and helping teens find their purpose in life, who they are and what they stand for, both in a residential setting and through the challenges they face in the adventure program. Bringing families together is what we love to do.

Franny Gryl, Ed.S., LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor)

Experience and Education

Franny is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and has been working with adolescents and their families for over thirty years, first as a Science teacher, then as an outdoor instructor, and finally as a therapist, combining her great love of the outdoors with her clinical skills. She currently has a traditional private practice based in the small town of Trout Creek, MT. Each summer she returns to the outdoors by working with programs that offers therapeutic wilderness activities for troubled teens and their families. Franny holds a Master's Degree (1988) from Virginia Tech in Family and Child Development, and an Education Specialist degree (Ed.S., 1996) from the University of Montana in Counselor Education. Over the past 20 years she has worked in a variety of settings, including therapeutic wilderness programs, group homes, social service agencies, a college counseling center, and most recently for the last 7 years, in private practice. As a 10-year river guide on Idaho's remote and exciting whitewater, she has a unique understanding of the ability of wild places to heal the human body and mend the human spirit. Franny has presented at regional conferences on using family therapy principles with youth on wilderness courses, and has taught parenting classed since the '80s. Her warm, nurturing style makes for an easy connection and her years of experience bring gentle support to each family's journey.
